Smokefree policies are the only effective way to protect the public and all employees from exposure to secondhand smoke. Partial measures do not work. Cities that enact comprehensive smokefree policies eliminate exposure to secondhand smoke inside all public places and workplaces. These places include bars, restaurants, clubs, and hotels, as well as all outdoor seating and serving areas, making the air cleaner and easier to breathe.

From the 426 municipalities in Alabama, only 27 have adopted comprehensive smokefree policies. This means that roughly only 12% of the population is equally protected.
